Stop Drifting, Start Paddling

If you’re here, I would bet you’ve been feeling lost or out-of-sorts. A vague sense of unease, like you should be somewhere – but you don’t know where.

For much of your life you’ve meandered along paths that appeared, not thinking too much about where they would take you, only knowing it was a path to take. It was easier to follow the path forged by someone else rather than chart your own course because you’ve got “more important” things to focus on. Paying the bills, caring for others, making ends meet, feeding hungry mouths.

But now you’ve started waking up as the tug on your pant legs grows less frequent. You’re starting to feel something new: a longing for something more, something just for you.

Karen McRae - The Coach

Hi, I’m Karen! I’m in my mid-40s and I get it. I only recently found my own paddle. I know what it feels like to drift along without intention, thinking only about making rent and having a little extra for things I enjoy.

I aimlessly followed paths that I stumbled upon for years… as a copywriter for a travel agency, a customer service rep for a furniture company, a project manager for a disc replicator… I happened into so many things that felt soul crushing, but paid the bills. I told myself it didn’t matter, as long as I had a roof over my head, what I wanted to do didn’t make a difference.

It wasn’t until I took a coaching training that I felt electrified and excited in a way I’d never felt before. Coaching clicked.

I loved listening deeply to people, asking questions, and seeing them light up when they had a shift in perspective or uncovered a truth.

Being a woman/wife/mother who spent so much of my life not thinking about where I was going, I want to help other women who feel the same way find their path and start making progress towards what they want. But here’s the thing: you have all the answers. I’m not a wise guru who magically has answers to life’s big mysteries; I’m here to listen without judgment and ask questions to illuminate hidden thoughts; to help you filter out noise and sift through thoughts/fears/emotions in order to reveal the answers that already lie within you, waiting to be unearthed.

A coach is someone with whom you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, fears, hopes, dreams, goals, concerns, feelings; who can be a support system for creating a more intentional life; who is a careful listener and observer. They help you work through feeling stuck, and are a partner for exploring new ideas, choices, and paths.

The Process

How Does it Work?

First thing’s first, we have to figure out if (A) coaching is the right support for you, and (B) if I’m the right coach to support you. We’ll start with a 20 minute Discovery call to go over the high level of where you’re at, where you’re stuck, and where you’d like to be.

If all that feels good and you’re ready to start working with me (woohoo!), then, we decide on how often our regular sessions should be (usually once a week to start with), schedule the first session and we’re off to the races from there! 

Sessions can take place virtually over Zoom, or, if you’re comfortable meeting in person (and the scheduling works out), we can decide on a mutually agreeable spot. How long we meet will depend on your specific situation and concerns, and there will always be an open dialogue about what is best for you, what’s working, and what’s not.
